Dan O’Dey, MD, PhD is an internationally renowned specialist in plastic, reconstructive, and aesthetic surgery, as well as hand surgery. He serves as the Director of the Clinic for Plastic, Reconstructive, Aesthetic Surgery and Hand Surgery at Luisenhospital in Aachen, where he has also been heading the Center for Reconstructive Surgery of Female Genitalia, which he founded in 2014.
Dr. O’Dey completed his medical studies at RWTH Aachen University (2000), where he also obtained his doctorate (2001) and his habilitation (2011) based on research into the vascular architecture of female genitalia and the development of new surgical techniques in vulvar and breast surgery. He is a Fellow of the European Board of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (FEBOPRAS) and a member of numerous scientific societies, including the German Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (DGPRÄC), the German Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics (DGGG), and the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS).
He is a pioneer in the field of female genital reconstruction. He has developed a range of innovative, proprietary microsurgical techniques, including the aOAP flap (anterior Obturator Artery Perforator flap), the OD flap, the NMCS procedure (Neo-Microsurgical Clitoris Surgery) for clitoral glans reconstruction, and the LTRA procedure (Long-Term Result Augmentation). His methods enable anatomical reconstruction of the vulva, including the clitoris, the vaginal vestibule, and the labia, and through advanced nerve grafting techniques, they also restore local sensitivity and the ability to experience sexual pleasure.
Dr. O’Dey is the author of the monograph “Vulvar Reconstruction Following Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) and other Acquired Deformities” as well as numerous scientific publications in peer-reviewed international journals. He is a lecturer at congresses worldwide and a peer reviewer for scientific journals.
For his pioneering role in the anatomical reconstruction of female genitalia and his commitment to women’s health, he was honored in March 2025 with the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
